Katherine Louisa Childs
Of Arlington Heights
Katherine Louisa Childs, 88, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, died on
November 16, 2011, after a short illness.
Born in Cadillac, Michigan, in 1923, Louisa moved to Chicago when she
was five years old. She attended the University of Michigan, where she
met her husband Ted. They were married just prior to his joining the
Army during World War II. Louisa graduated from Northwestern University.
Following the war, Louisa and Ted lived and raised their three children
in Chicago and Park Ridge, Illinois. They later moved to Rolling
Meadows, Illinois, and, upon Ted’s retirement, they moved to Fort Myers,
Florida, and then to Madison, Mississippi. Following Ted’s death in
2007, Louisa moved to Luther Village in Arlington Heights.
Louisa was a wonderful cook and great entertainer, and she always made
sure the whole family got together from around the country at least once
a year. She was particularly happy when the family and other relatives
visited their cottage at Klinger Lake, Michigan.
Louisa is survived by her sons Bruce (Nancy) Childs of Indianapolis,
Indiana and Ralph Childs of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and her daughter
Barbara (Mike) Childs Wallace of Ridgeland, Mississippi. She has five
granddaughters – Kyle, Molly, Ellie, and Grace Wallace, and Katie Childs
Tidwell – and three great-grandchildren – Justin, Madison, and Preston
Tidwell. She also greatly appreciated the friendship and care provided
by Wayne Kaba.
Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, December 12, 2011 from 10:00 AM
until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:oo am, at the Chapel of St. John the
Beloved, located in the Lutheran Home and Services, 800 West Oakton,
Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4000 Ridgeland Road, Jackson, Mississippi 39211. Please designate such donations for the Honduran Water Fund, which helps provide clean drinking systems to Honduran villages.
