Margaret Joyce Smogor
Of Mt. Prospect

Margaret Joyce Smogor was born in Chicago to Lucas V. and Ella M. (nee Ocenacek) Mastalerz. She died Monday, December 25, 2006 in Mt. Prospect.

Margaret was a graduate of DePaul University, Chicago, IL, where she was active in student government and editor of the university newspaper. She received her teaching degree and went on to become a dedicated and respected teacher. Margaret began her career at Saint Wenceslaus in Chicago. She later volunteered her teaching abilities to the development and building of Saint Catherine Laboure School in Glenview, IL. After a long tenure of 30 years teaching junior high history at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, Margaret retired in 2004. An avid history lover, she became a member and served as President of the Chicago Civil War Society.

Margaret is survived by her children, Mary Lynne Smogor, Mark L. (Linda) Smogor, Julie (John) Flanagan, Cindy (Dave) Bieda, Aimee (Jim) Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Matt, John, Kate, Chloe, Elias, Carly, Zac, Luke, Sammie, Patrick and Jessica; and her great-grandson, Payton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis T. Smogor; her sister, Shirley; and her parents, Ella and Lucas Mastalerz.

Visitation 3:00 until 9:00 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Friday, December 29, 2006 at the funeral home to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at 10 AM. Entombment All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 1114 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004, appreciated.
