Robert L. Baird
Of Mt. Prospect

Robert L. Baird was born on November 17, 1920 in New Waverly, Texas to Thomas Frederick and Lela Baird. He passed away December 16, 2005 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

R.L.’s career as a jockey spanned six decades. A five time rider in the Kentucky Derby, the last one in 1978 and winning six other Derbies including the Louisiana Derby twice. R.L. won over 3700 races including 213 at Arlington Park.

R.L. proudly served his county in World War II under General George Patton’s 90th Division of the 3rd U.S. Army.

Robert is survived by his wife Marie; his children, Diane , Roberta, William, Debra, Robert and Edward five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren and his sister Edna.

Funeral services 11:00 AM, Tuesday at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Visitation Monday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. Private family interment.
