Blanche L. Bernard
Of Des Plaines

Blanche L. Bernard was born April 14, 1916 in Stanley, Wisconsin, to John J. and Laura L. (nee Shock) Nicholson. She died Monday, December 27, 2004 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Blanche, a former practical nurse, devoted her life to being a loving wife for her husband and raising her four daughters. She was a very special Nana to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis P. "Frank" Bernard, whom she married May 10, 1941; her daughters Patricia Ellen (George) Harte of Downers Grove, Laura Louise (David) Stailey of Arlington Heights, Margaret Mary (Jim) Brewer of Mundelein and Elizabeth Ann (Wayne) Barthel of Portage, Michigan, formerly Streamwood; her 9 grandchildren Michael (Melissa) Stailey, Mark (Sally) Stailey, Megan (David ) Word, Laura (Thomas) Severt, Jennifer (Brian) Johnson, Jim Brewer, Kathleen (Alan) Kass, Dawn (Darrin) Kwasniewski and Heather (Mark) Pownell and 11 great grandchildren; her sisters Margaret McLeod and Mary Ellen (Dr. Stuart) Levine; and her sister-in-law Lillian Nicholson.

Blanche was preceded in death by her sisters Bessie (Donald) Logan, Sarah (Dr. Robert) Bragman, her brothers Edward and John Nicholson; and her brother-in-law Donald McLeod.

Visitation Thursday, December 30, 2004 from 3:00 until 9:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights and Friday, December 31, 2004 at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Edna Catholic Church Ministry of Care.
