Richard D. Higgins
Of Arlington Heights

Richard D. Higgins was born April 5, 1921, in Elmira, NY, to Frank H. and Marian E. (nee Daghistan).   He died Friday, November 22, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Higgins attended Nishuane Elementary School in Montclair, New Jersey, Mount Hebron Junior High in Upper Montclair New Jersey; Highland Park High School, where he played varsity football, was captain of the swimming team and gave the commencement address at his high school graduation.   Richard attended college at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire where he played junior varsity football, was president of Phi Kappa PSI Fraternity, vice-president of inter-fraternity council, and graduated with distinction with the Class of 1942.  Richard served in the United States Navy, 1941-1946, as a flight instructor and fighter pilot.   He worked for Bell and Howell of Lincolnwood and Skokie, for 38 years, retiring as Vice-President, International Group.  Richard also held various positions on several international organizations.  He lived in  California from 1986-2005 where he was President of the Pacific Foundation for Cardiovascular Research, before returning to the Chicago area.
 
Richard is survived by his children, William F. (Vanessa) Higgins, Betsy A. (Edward) Huguez, and Nancy H. (Thomas) Reddington; stepchildren, Mary Ann (Robert) Ogilvie, Monica Schorsch, Maureen Schorsch, Kathy Schorsch, Martin (Twila) Schorsch; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Jacqueline and his parents.

Memorial Service, 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2013  at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights, IL   60004.  Family will receive guests from 1:00 PM until time of service.
