Leonard W. Enz
Of Arlington Heights

Leonard W. Enz was born on March 4, 1970 in Columbia, Missouri to Dominic and Diane (nee Ritter) Enz. He passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013 in Chicago after a 13 month battle with brain cancer.

Lenny grew up in Gurnee Illinois where he graduated from Warren Township High School in 1988.  He was a top student active in band and 4H and went on to study Architecture at University of Detroit.   He forged lifelong friendships at U of D, studied abroad in Italy and Poland, was editor of the Dichotomy the Architecture school’s magazine, started the Safety Street program, and graduated with nearly a perfect grade point average in 1993.

Lenny received his architecture license in 1996 and worked for several architecture firms in Chicago where he designed schools, retail stores, Greenbelt Cultural Center, and Museum Campus/Comfort Station downtown Chicago before starting his own firm Tactical Design in Arlington Heights.  He designed police and fire training facilities and was extremely proud of his one of a kind expertise and design for the New York Police Academy, State of Alaska’s training center, Country of Northern Ireland’s training center, NIPSTA training facility in Glenview, and College of Dupage’s state of the art training center in Glen Ellyn.  He designed their tactical village and burn towers, which has gotten praise throughout the state.

Lenny loved photography, drawing, woodworking, leather craft, assisting in Michael’s Cub Scout Pack 37, watching Michael play Arlington Aces Soccer, watching Heidi learn ballet and tap, and serving on many committees for St. Peter Lutheran Church and School where his children attend school and his family made their church home.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 12 years, Susan (nee Cornell); his children, Michael, Heidi, Gretchen and Hanna Enz; his sister, Cathy (Bruce McElroy) Enz-McElroy; and his brother, Michael Enz .

He was preceded in death by his father.
