Merritt L. Lewis
Of Arlington Heights

Merritt L. Lewis was born on January 4, 1934 to Jackson B. and Helen (nee Hunt) Lewis in Chicago. He passed away on November 14, 2010 at the age of 76. Raised in Norwood Park, graduating from Taft High School in 1952, he served in the Army in Korea.

Residing in Arlington Heights since 1961, Merritt was active and involved in local activities and volunteered his energies to many community services, including conservation and emergency response groups. A member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, he served on the building maintenance committee.

Merritt retired as an engineer in the telephone industry with 33 years at Illinois Bell/ATT and 12 years at Reltec.

Merritt is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce (nee Ruttkay) Lewis; his daughters, Donna L. Lewis of Elk Grove Village and Diane C. (Jude) Bannister of Maui, Hawaii; and his sister, Velna (George) Kolodziej.

Memorial Visitation from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 18, 2010, followed by a Memorial Service at 8:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Interment Private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, 75 Remittance Drive, Suite 1907, Chicago, IL 60675-1907.
