Herbert A. Atkins Jr.
Of Arlington Heights

Herbert A. Atkins Jr. was born on March 13, 1923 in Richmond, VA to Herbert A. and Ashleigh (nee Norment) Atkins. He died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Northwest Community Hospital.

Herbert served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired as a lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of active and reserve service. He retired from the Allstate Insurance Co. after a 29 year career.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elise (nee Phillips); his children, Jeff (Holly) Atkins, Douglas (Carol) Atkins, Janet (Richard) Sprague, Judy (Tim) Meginnes and Kevin (Deborah) Atkins; grandchildren, Jennifer and Todd Atkins, Marissa, Kristen and Mike Atkins, John and Scott Sprague, Jay and Alex Meginnes and Mark, Joseph and Olivia Atkins.

Memorial service 4:00 PM Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Christian Church of Arlington Heights, 333 W. Thomas St., Arlington Heights where a reception will follow. Interment private.
