Edward Mauel
Of Palatine

Edward Mauel, a 46 year resident of Palatine, was born April 16, 1918 in Chicago to Leonard and Ann (nee Jones) Mauel. He died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Mauel was a professional structural engineer, employed by Union Oil/Unocal for over 35 years before retiring in 1984. He is a veteran of WW II and served in the Army Air Corps as a Captain in the 31st Fighter Group as a meteorologist and later served in the Air Force Reserves. Edward was stationed in England, Northern Africa, Sicily and Italy and participated in four major D-Day Invasions. He graduated Tau Beta Pi in 1940 from the University of Illinois where he participated in the ROTC program and was awarded the Outstanding Student of 1940. He was a 55 year member of the Gary, Indiana Masonic Lodge.

His survivors include his wife of 62 years, Georgean "Jean" nee Johnson whom he married November 5, 1943; his daughters Pamela Grabowski of Milford, New Jersey and Priscilla (Keith Harris) Elling of Palatine; his grandchildren Amy and Sarah Grabowski and Ross and Kimberly Elling.

Edward is preceded in death by his son-in-law John T. Grabowski.

Funeral service 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Visitation from 12:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM. Interment private.
