John L. Eichman

John L. Eichman passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 3, 2013, just days short of his 86th birthday.  Evelyn, his beloved wife of 64 years; his cherished children, Pam, Kathy, John and Jim; his 10 beautiful grandchildren; and his many friends will all miss him terribly.  John was deeply committed to his faith, his family, Catholic education and his business career.  He loved playing golf, fishing, coaching Little League sports and watching the Badgers, the Bears and the Cubs, although in the 75 years he followed the Cubs, they never managed to love him back.  While there aren't many left who remember it, John played on champion football and basketball teams at his Madison, Wisconsin high school, and he had the pictures to prove it.  Following service in the Navy, John graduated from the University of Wisconsin.  During his 43 year sales career, John perfected the art of persuasion—and nobody did it better.  He also put that considerable skill to great use for many charitable causes, including Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church and St. Viator High School. John thought Catholic education had been a great gift to him and wanted to enable others to enjoy that same gift.

John is survived by his wife, Evelyn (nee Leary); his children, Pam (Bill) Mitchell, Kathy (Tom) Nolan, John (Victoria) Eichman and Jim (Kathy) Eichman; and his grandchildren, Susan and Will Mitchell, Tom (Adrienne) Nolan, Kelly (Tony) Guerdet, Tim and Colleen Nolan and Jack, Gillian, Elise and Aidan Eichman.

Visitation  from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Prayers  10:15 am Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Funeral Home, proceeding to Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights for Mass at 11:00 am.  Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
