Francis William Petro, 77, of Park Ridge passed away on October 12, 2012.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Dolores (nee Amico); his children Dan (Gail) Petro, Deborah Petro, Lisa Petro, Cathy (Peter) Turner, Thomas Petro and Mary Petro; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew, Stephen, Amanda, Ryan, Sarah, Brianna, Madelyn and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy, father, Frank, and brother, Robert.

Frank was born and raised on the South Side. He worked in the steel mills to pay for college, graduating with honors from John Carroll University in 1957.

He married Dolores in 1958 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps.

Frank went to Loyola University Law School and was admitted to the practice of law in Illinois in 1965. He opened his own law firm in 1990 and continued in practice until shortly before his death.

Frank worked tirelessly to protect the rights of working people during a long successful career. He was honored to be a designated legal counsel for the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and United Transportation Union.

He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, reader and book collector. He was past membership committee chairman at Ridgemoor Country Club, President of the Sicilian American Cultural Association, and member of the Justinian Society of Lawyers.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 N. Sauganash, Chicago, followed by Mass at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
