Lois Goleas
Of Arlington Heights

Lois Goleas was born September 4, 1924 in Chicago to Fred and Mae (nee Brom) Heise. She died Thursday, October 22, 2009 in DeKalb.

Lois was an adventurous spirit whose life was shaped by many experiences. She was a 1942 graduate of Foreman High School in Chicago where she joined the Melodie Maids All Girl Band as a trombone player which later became the Sharon Rogers Band and Her All Girl Orchestra. She later played with the Betty McGuire Band in New York City where the group traveled the East coast performing for the USO. Afterwards Lois returned to Chicago to work as a riveter for Douglas Aircraft at O’Hare Airport assembling C-54 Cargo planes for the war effort. Near the end of WW II, she returned to the Sharon Rogers Band to perform for the USO in the Philippines. As the war ended, during a flight to Tokyo, in stormy weather, Lois and her fellow band members survived a plane crash into the Sea of Japan. Later in life, Lois continued to enjoy extensive travel. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, making pottery, spending time with her family, and serving at her church.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Terry) Koch, Dr. John (Debra) Goleas, and Janet (the late Peter Watson) Goleas; and her grandchildren, Christopher Scallon, Ellen Goleas and Ian Holt Goleas-Watson.

Lois is preceded in death by her beloved former husband, Eric J. Goleas and her brother, Fred Heise.
