Lois Goleas
Of Arlington Heights
Lois Goleas was born
September 4, 1924 in
Chicago to Fred and
Mae (nee Brom) Heise.
She died Thursday,
October 22, 2009 in
DeKalb.
Lois was an
adventurous spirit
whose life was
shaped by many
experiences. She was
a 1942 graduate of
Foreman High School
in Chicago where she
joined the Melodie
Maids All Girl Band
as a trombone player
which later became
the Sharon Rogers
Band and Her All
Girl Orchestra. She
later played with
the Betty McGuire
Band in New York
City where the group
traveled the East
coast performing for
the USO. Afterwards
Lois returned to
Chicago to work as a
riveter for Douglas
Aircraft at O’Hare
Airport assembling
C-54 Cargo planes
for the war effort.
Near the end of WW
II, she returned to
the Sharon Rogers
Band to perform for
the USO in the
Philippines. As the
war ended, during a
flight to Tokyo, in
stormy weather, Lois
and her fellow band
members survived a
plane crash into the
Sea of Japan. Later
in life, Lois
continued to enjoy
extensive travel.
She also enjoyed
cooking,
entertaining, making
pottery, spending
time with her
family, and serving
at her church.
She is survived by
her children, Nancy
(Terry) Koch, Dr.
John (Debra) Goleas,
and Janet (the late
Peter Watson) Goleas;
and her
grandchildren,
Christopher Scallon,
Ellen Goleas and Ian
Holt Goleas-Watson.
Lois is preceded in
death by her beloved
former husband, Eric
J. Goleas and her
brother, Fred Heise.
Visitation from 3:00
PM until 8:00 PM
Sunday, October 25,
2009 at the
Glueckert Funeral
Home, Ltd., 1520 N.
Arlington Heights
Road, (4 blocks
south of Palatine
Road) Arlington
Heights. Funeral
service and
interment will be
held privately.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial
