James W. Fitzpatrick, formerly of Arlington Heights, was born April 25, 1925 in Chicago to Bernard D. and Elizabeth (nee McCone) Fitzpatrick. He passed away Thursday October 23, 2008 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Mr. Fitzpatrick served in WWII in the US Merchant Marines and as a Sergeant in the US Army in Korea, where he earned a purple heart and the bronze star. Jim was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 73 for 43 years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis (nee Van Der Hayden) his children J Jim, Jack (Kathy McGovern), Judy (Matt Ireland), Jane (Tim Yerkman) and Donna; he was the loving grandfather to Erin, David, Evelyn, Kyle, Caitlin, Kaitlyn, Michael and Kevin; his siblings, Ann (Terry) Dodgen, Dorothy (late Sylvester) Bednarek, Jerry (Dorothy Pierce), Eileen (John) Frega and Robert (Josephine Hock); and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son David, grandson John Tyler, his brother Bernard and sisters’ Rita Hill and Mary Roos.
Visitation from 3:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 10:45 AM, Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at AM 11:30 AM. Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society, 1114 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
