William Blue Vaughan II
Of Palatine

William Blue Vaughan II, was Born 9 May 1919 in Lapeer, MI to William Blue and Arvilla (nee McKrill) Vaughan. He died 21 October 2008 in his home, surrounded by family.

Mr. Vaughan was a brilliant landscape architect, designing zoos, parks, ball fields and running tracks worldwide. Locally he designed the Palatine Bike Trail, the Doug Lundburg Park and Barrington’s Field of Dreams and much more. Internationally, he designed a zoo in Africa and parks in Germany and Canada. William had a passion for life, nature and adventure that he passed along to his family. Summers were spent at the family cottage in Traverse City, sharing his joy of life with others.

He enjoyed canoeing and camping in the Boundary Waters. Bill created unique ceramic art pieces. As an instructor, William taught landscape architecture for adult education. He volunteered his time at Willow Creek Community Church in the Harvest ministry. William was a veteran of WWII in the field artillery unit. He participated in the liberation of the prisoners at the Dachau Concentration camp.

William is survived by his wife Charlotte (nee Sitts) Vaughan whom he married October 18, 1953 in Lapeer, MI; his children Tamara (Thomas) O’Connor, Juni (Brett) Hartmann, William Blue (Kathy) Vaughan and Christopher “Keek” (Kim) Vaughan; his grandchildren Christopher and Daniel O’ Connor, Peter and Benjamin Hartmann, Nicholas, Justin, Kevin, Corrina, Alex, Emma and Andy Vaughan; his siblings Murviel (late Charles) Braden and Bernita (Oliver) Juengal.

He is preceded in death by a grandson Brent Vaughan; his siblings Lyle (Helen), Wilmot, Barbara and Jack Vaughan and Lee (Jack) Baxter.

Visitation from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights, and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM , Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road, South Barrington, IL. Interment Lapeere, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lake County Forest Preserve Volunteer Fund, Attn: Green Gift Program, 200 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048.
