Wai Kwan Yee
Of Arlington Heights

Wai Kwan Yee, a resident of Arlington Heights for 48 years. Born on February 1, 1930 in Toisan. China.  She passed away peacefully Saturday, September 21, 2013 after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Wai married Ed Yee in Guangdong, China in 1948 and fled to Hong Kong shortly after the communist takeover in 1949. She and her husband dreamed of a better life and moved from Hong Kong to the United States in 1954.  They lived and worked in Chicago from then until 1965 when they settled in Arlington Heights.  Wai and Ed owned Hong Kong Restaurant in Fox River Grove from 1966 to 1975.  After they sold the restaurant, Wai went on to become a Quality Control specialist at Electrodynamics, a government defense electronics manufacturer, from 1976 until she retired in 1997.

She loved cooking and tending to her vegetable garden.  She treasured her family most and felt happiest when they could all gather together to enjoy her cooking, especially her sticky rice. Her proudest achievement was raising seven wonderful daughters by instilling her traditional values along with her strength, integrity and wisdom.

She is survived by her daughters, Maeme (Carl) Breihan, Ginnie (Dave) Stratton, Elaine (Wei-Guang) Chen, Eva (Jerry) Nappi, Mary (Lance) Latuszek, Anna Kraft and Suzie (Brian) Day; her grandchildren Eric, Marc and Tara Breihan, Lia Stratton, Rebecca Chen, Stephanie and Anthony Nappi, Brandon, Maleah and Ryan Latuszek, John, Maddie, Caroline and Charlie Kraft, Kevin, Kyle and Dylan Day; her great-granddaughter Riley Breihan; and her sister, Helen “Mong Chun” Gee.

Mrs.Yee is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edton “Ed” Yung Yee.

Visitation from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 30, 2013. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
