Charlotte Marjorie Vaughan
Of Palatine

Charlotte Marjorie Vaughan was born Oct. 4, 1922 in Flint, MI. to Charles and Mamie (nee Whitmer) Sitts. She died on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 in North Barrington.

Charlotte was a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she obtained a degree in Education. Before settling in Palatine, she taught in classrooms as far as Germany. As a mother of four, Charlotte shared her unique creativity in little ways, making every moment feel special. Her love for music, reading, the arts and beauty was contagious. She enthusiastically praised all of her children’s contributions, making the most of their individual gifts and talents. Charlotte, by nature, was an introvert but those who knew her well were blessed by her quiet strength, deep faith and wonderful sense of humor. It was her kind smile that drew many to her, and her gracious demeanor that will be remembered most.

Above all, she cherished her family and friendships. She proved it was not the number of friends one had, but the authentic, enduring bond and genuine love shared with a few. Lifetime friends Fern and Bob Lamb shared this unique bond with Charlotte and William, and became faithful partners through life’s ups and downs for over 55 years.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Tamara (Thomas) O’Connor, Juni (Brett) Hartmann, William Blue III (Kathy) Vaughan and Christopher “Keek” (Kim) Vaughan; her grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel O’Connor, Peter and Benjamin Hartmann, Nicholas, Justin, Kevin, Corrina, Alex, Emma and Andy Vaughan; her sister, Jean Cole, and her brother-in-law, Bob Cole.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Blue Vaughan II whom she married Oct. 18, 1953; her grandson, Brent Vaughan; her brother, Marvin (Betty) Sitts and by her parents.

Visitation from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. In state Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 from 9:00 am until time of funeral service at 10:00 am at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road, South Barrington, IL. Interment is at Stiles Cemetery in Lapeer, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Brent Vaughan Scholarship Fund, in care of the Vaughan family.
