Mary L. Kale
Of Sun City West, Arizona

Mary L. Kale (nee Krumbein) was born on November 6, 1927 in Iron River, Michigan to Henry and Anna (nee Johnsen) Krumbein. She died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

During the Depression, Mary’s family moved to the Chicago area. After graduating from Waller High School, Mary studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. She chose watercolor and woodcut as her primary means of expression, and returned in retirement to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, to work from a studio on Hagerman Lake. Mary was a member of the Midwest Watercolor Society and the San Diego Watercolor Society. Her paintings and woodcuts are in collections throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Mary is survived by her spouse of 64 years, Paul, her daughter, Nancy (Michael) LaBay; her granddaughter, Jessica (Scott) Ryan; her great-grandchildren Maggie and Lilah Ryan; her sister, Irene Lumgair; and her nephews Douglas and John Lumgair. Her family was her joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, Illinois. Prayer Service 11:00 am, Friday, September 28, 2012 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. Burial will take place at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
