Donald D. McDonald was born August 2, 1923 in Granite City, Illinois to James and Bertha (nee Mounts) McDonald. He died on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Arlington Heights.

Donald served as an Air Force Bombardier during WW II. He was a graduate of Missouri University, Washington University, and an Honorary Doctor of Humanities of Oakland City University, Oakland City, Indiana. He retired from AON Corporation on April 28, 1989 after 35 years. He was active in many charitable organizations and Lutheran churches, and devoted to family, God, and country.

He is the beloved husband of Evelyn (nee Kixmiller ) McDonald; loving and devoted father of Donna Preves, Linda (John) Barry; cherished grandfather of Gregory (Amy) Preves, Robert (Jill) Preves, and Meghan Barry; and great-grandfather of Collin, Aidan, Grant, Hailey and Rachel Preves.

Donald is preceded in death by brothers, Milton and John; and his parents.

Visitation Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. John the Beloved Chapel at the Lutheran Home, 800 West Oakton, Arlington Heights and on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Entombment is Private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Home, 800 West Oakton Street, Arlington Heights, IL 60004, Luther Village Spiritual Enrichment Organization, 1250 Village Drive, Arlington Heights, IL 60004, Hospice of Northeastern Illinois , 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60004, or St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 West Olive Street, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
