Leonard Rateike
Of Arlington Heights

Leonard Rateike was born October 22, 1918 in Wheeling Township to Ferdinand and Minnie (nee Kerschke) Rateike. He died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at his home in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Rateike was a milkman for Meyer Brothers Dairy in Arlington Heights for many years before he retired in 1980. He served as a Corporal in the US Army during WWII and specialized as a pharmacist technician, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Leonard was a long time and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he served as a school board member and sang in the Adult Choir. He was an active participant in the St. Peter Fellowship Club, was president of the Senior’s Club and was co-captain in one of the Usher Corps.

His survivors include his children Kenneth (Jane) Rateike of South Barrington, James (Catherine) Rateike of Arlington Heights, Donald (Anita) Rateike of Greenwood, Indiana and Audrey (Robert) Kowall of Arlington Heights; his 9 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren.

Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Hilda Marie nee Stoeckel, his grandson Joseph Kurt Kowall, his parents and his brothers Irving and Melvin.

Visitation from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights and from 9:00 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive St., Arlington Heights. Interment Randhill Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Radio Broadcast Fund.
