Martin Flatebo
Of Grayslake

Martin Flatebo was born March 5, 1919, in Jondal, Norway to Knut and Anna Flatebo. He died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville.

Husband…Dad…Besten…Uncle…Carpenter…Caregiver…Neighbor…Friend …Provider… Loyal…Trustworthy…

He was a carpenter and a member for 51 years with Carpenters union Local 314. Martin Flatebo was a quiet man with a heart of gold. A giving heart…always willing to be of help. He had a heart for hospitality and loved to have people in his home. Martin was quick to put on the coffeepot or peel a few more potatoes. He had a hardworking heart, always willing to take the time to do things right. His motto was “Measure twice, cut once.” Martin had a heart full of good advice, advice that only came when asked; a heart for family and friends, showing love in his own unique way. He believed in actions above words

His grandchildren called him “Besten” the Norwegian word for grandfather. This endearing name was adopted by many that loved him and also called him “Besten.”

Martin’s survivors include his sons Pete (Cindy) Flatebo of Grayslake and Nels (Karen) Flatebo of Buffalo Grove; his grandchildren Carrie (Shawn) Weber, Heidi Flatebo, Emily Flatebo and Ryan Arndt; great grandchildren Madeline Ruth Weber, Andrew Flatebo Weber and Martin Joseph Weber.

Martin is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents and his siblings Johannes, Hans, Marta, Olav Flatabo and Margreta Utne.
