Edwin J. Barts
Of Arlington Heights

Edwin J. Barts was born in Chicago on March 28, 1918 to Alex and Josephine Bartkowski. He passed away in Arlington Heights on September 9, 2006.

Eddy Barts was a pioneer in the insurance industry, establishing a form of insurance known as substandard life on a worldwide network. After serving in executive positions for many large insurance companies, Barts then headed a division for Transport Life Insurance Company, Fort Worth, Texas, and was an owner of the Reinsurance Service Bureau of Europe, a company that worked extensively with Lloyds of London. For the past three decades, in honor of his contribution to the industry, a scholarship endowment in his name is established at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, to enable students interested in entering the insurance industry an Edwin J. Barts
Scholarship.

Edwin is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Don) Barts-Sharp and Sue Barts-LaFrenz, his grandchildren, Laura (Steve) Sharp-Brackett, Christopher (Erin Geegan) Barts-Sharp, Michelle LaFrenz and Krista (Paul) LaFrenz-Krake, his great-grandchildren, Alexa and Quinn Sharp and his cousin, Helen Golab.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (nee Maculski).

Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Visitation Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at noon at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
