Dr. Owen H. Bloodgood, Jr.
Of Algonquin, formerly of Palatine

Dr. Owen H. Bloodgood, Jr., was born April 18, 1930 in Aurora, Illinois to Owen Henry and Dorothy (nee Frazier Bloodgood, Sr. He passed away Thursday,
September 15, 2005 at his home in Algonquin.

Dr. Bloodgood, Jr., graduated Bloomington High School in 1948, then received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1952, he continued on at the University's College of Medicine to earn his Masters and then his Medical Degree. He served his internship at Cook County Hospital. Dr. Owen was an Air Force Medic during the Korean War, stationed in Big Springs, TX, delivering babies.

 

He was a member of the Twin Lakes Horseshoe club in Palatine. He was a self-appointed pool shark, fond of playing poker, needlepoint, woodcarving and playing piano. He was the kindest, neatest person ever, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle great uncle and loved by everyone he met. Dr. Owen Bloodgood Jr.'s practice was Central Obstetrics -Gynecology in Arlington Heights, for 42 years, where he delivered approximately 17,000 babies.

Dr. Bloodgood is survived by his wife Marilene Bloodgood (nee Kotleba), whom he married May 20, 1988 in Palatine; his children Kate Bloodgood, Sue (Ron) Weaver both of Ithaca, NY, Sarah (Charlie) Hydes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Hannah Bloodgood of Fredricksberg, VA, Sam (Karen) Bloodgood of Lincolnshire, Josh (Amy) Bloodgood of New Lennox and Jake Bloodgood of Milwaukee, WI; step-children Tim (Nancy) Barrett of Algonquin, Todd (Deb) Barrett of Elgin, Maribeth Barrett of Mount Prospect and Matthew (Gail) Barrett of South Elgin. Owen was the loving grandfather of Stephanie, David, Oliver, Ethan, Isaac, Sarah, Noah, Wylie, Owen, Katie, Elliott, Sammy, Mary, Leah, Sammy, Cassidy, Luke, Michael, Madelyn, Mitchell, Miranda, Nathan, and Jared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Betty (Gene) Flumerfelt.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Visitation Sunday from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. Interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
