John D. Schmidt
Of Arlington Heights

John D. Schmidt was born November 19, 1937 in Frederick, OK. He passed away after a long illness September 14, 2005 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

John graduated from Frederick, OK High School, then went on to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis (B. Div). He received his Masters from Cambridge University and earned a Ph.D. from John Hopkins University. He was an Egyptologist and Hebrew scholar and in recent years was conducting research and writing. Previously he was a Professor of Egyptology at Columbia University, New York City. John was the Past President of both the Historical Society of Arlington Heights and St. Peter Lutheran Church, Arlington Heights, where he was also an active member. Along with his son Mark, John was an avid antique automobile enthusiast and historian.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10:30 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive Street, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Visitation will be Friday, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lutheran Home & Services, 800 W. Oakton, Arlington Heights, IL 60004 and 10:00 AM until the time of the service, Saturday at church. Interment will be at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Home and Services.
