Walter S. Wolodkin
Of Rolling Meadows

Born February 16, 1925 in Chicago, Walter S. Wolodkin passed away peacefully at Rosewood Care Center in Inverness on August 2, 2011.

Walter’s focus in life was always music. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he graduated from DePaul University, earning a master’s degree in music. Walter played the viola in the New Orleans Symphony and the Grant Park Symphony, and then served as Director of the Irving Park YMCA Chorus. His passion for music was passed on to countless students when he worked as Orchestra Director at Steinmetz, Maine East, and Maine North high schools. Together, Walter and his wife, Muriel, served as Choir Director and Organist, respectively, at Watson Park Congregational Church and Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Chicago. Most recently he played the viola for the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, where he was a Board Member and a 10-year volunteer in Public Relations.

Walter Wolodkin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Muriel (nee Peterson) Wolodkin; his children, Nancy (Thomas) Ross, Kristie (James) Gunther, Leslie (Guy) Wilson, and Steven Wolodkin; his grandchildren, Laura (Nathan) Bryer and Katherine (Andrew) Stegman; his great-grandson, Ryan Stegman; and his brother, George (Janet) Wolodkin.
