Pauline Marie Von Oepen
Pauline
Marie Von Oepen joined the Lord and many of her friends and family in
Heaven on August 28, 2010. She was surrounded by her loving family in
her own home which she so cherished. Born on August 15, 1913 in Bartelso,
Illinois, Pauline grew up on the farm with her 6 siblings. She ventured
to Chicago at the age of 16 to work at St. Anne’s Hospital where she met
the love of her life, George Von Oepen, whom she married on September 5,
1935. God blessed Pauline and George with three children, George, Eileen
and Sharon. She witnessed much joy as her family grew but also much
sadness in her life, losing her husband when she was just 48, and later
two grandchildren and her beloved son.
Pauline, also known as Pap, was a very strong yet caring mom,
grandmother, great grandmother and endeared aunt and neighbor. The focus
of her life was her faith and her family. An outstanding cook, she
regularly shared her life and great food with her family and friends.
She was an avid and competitive pinochle and dominoes player. While she
will be missed so deeply, she had a rich and fulfilling life and has
left her family and friends with the fondest of memories and humorous
stories.
Saddened by her passing are her daughters, Eileen Burden (Lee), Sharon
Scharringhausen (Larry); her grandchildren, David (Kim) Von Oepen.
Eileen Angeli (Paul), Philip (Kelly) Von Oepen, Suzanne (Scott) Sroda,
Jennifer Von Oepen, Cathy Carr, Ron Carr, Rick (Deb) Carr, John (Laura)
Shahinian, Lisa (Bill) Seagraves, Shari (Dean) Nickens; her
stepgrandchildren Mike (Vicki) Scharringhausen and Janet (Ron) Fowler;
and her 29 great grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her loving husband George Anthony in
1961, son George Paul, and grandchildren John Michael Shahinian III and
Rebecca Lee Burden; her brothers Leo and Joe and sisters Cecilia,
Eleanore, Kate and Martha.
