Raymond “Ray” Caccamo

Raymond “Ray” Caccamo passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. He was born on Oct. 15, 1935, in Chicago to the late Phyllis and Sam Caccamo.

He graduated from Foreman High School where he played center field on the 1953 city championship baseball team. Though trained as a barber, Ray’s interests ranged far and wide, but started and ended with his family and the Chicago Cubs. He was an original “bleacher bum” and he always hoped that “this would be the year” for the Cubs. Ray loved and dedicated himself to his family, and was deeply loved in return.

He is survived by Marsha, his wife of 38 years, his daughter Kelly, son-in-law John, and son Matthew. Ray was elated about the arrival of his first grandchild, a girl, due in December. He would have been a wonderful grandfather. Ray was also fortunate enough to enjoy the company of a special friend during the last years of his life — his son’s dog, Cooper.

Also surviving him are his brothers William (the late Mary), Ronald (Connie), nephews Paul (Kathy) Caccamo, and Daniel Caccamo, niece Julie (Matthew) Quinn, great-nieces Danielle Caccamo and Olivia Quinn, and great- nephews Nicholas and Andrew Caccamo and Matthew Quinn. Ray leaves behind many other dear family members and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
