Kimberly Mark Schmidt was born April 28, 1950 in Evanston. Died August 10, 2007 in Cascade, Michigan

Pianist Kimberly Schmidt appeared in concert halls across the country in solo recital, concerti, chamber music and as an accompanist. After winning the Allied Arts Prize in Chicago, he made his debut there in Orchestra Hall. Prizes from the East-West Artists in New York, and the Martin Musical Foundation in London led to recitals in Carnegie Recital Hall, and the Wigmore Hall. His repertoire of concerti has ranged from Bach through Berg and Stravinsky, and includes both Brahms concerti. A much sought after accompanist, Mr. Schmidt worked with Lucia Popp, Olaf Baer, Udo Reinemann, Carol Wincenc and Suzanne Mentzer. Mr. Schmidt recorded on the Sto-Lat, Koch, Musical Heritage and Blue Griffin labels. Most recently released was a recording of French Music for flute and piano with Richard Sherman. This album was singled out by Fanfare Magazine as an outstanding release in 2006. Mr. Schmidt maintained an active career based in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he frequently collaborated with his brother, choreographer Gordon Peirce Schmidt, artistic director for the Grand Rapids Ballet, most recently on the original ballet Tatyana for which he compiled, arranged and performed the solo piano score.

He is survived by his mother Anne Schmidt ( nee) Dinchak; brothers Richard J. (Louise) Schmidt, Lawrence (Kathy) Schmidt, Grodon Peirce Schmidt; sister Anne (Ed) Dolik; nieces and nephews, Rick (Sherrie) Schmidt, Heidi (Glenn) Erickson, Peirce (Karen) Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt, Tristan Dolik and Aidan Dolik; great nieces and nephews Rick and Stephanie Schmidt, James, Lauren and Jack Erickson.

Kimberly is preceded in death by his father Richard Schmidt and his nephew Michael Schmidt.

Visitation from 4 until 9 PM, Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:45 AM, Saturday, August 18, 2007 from the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, Illinois.
