Geraldine A. Golemo

Of Arlington Heights

Geraldine A. Golemo was born May 30, 1931 in Chicago to Edward R. Shupe and Evelyn E. Schmidt. She entered the Lord’s Home of Eternal Joy on August 18, 2005 at her home, after battling a debilitating disease.

In addition to being a homemaker, Geraldine’s working career included 25 years with Motorola, Inc., in Schaumburg. After initially serving as an administrative assistant to the Vice President of National Sales, Geraldine took a break in service to raise her children. She later returned to Motorola to work in the corporate payroll department. Upon her retirement, Geraldine was presented with the “Excellence in Teamwork” award from corporate financial reporting services at Motorola.

Like her own mother, Geraldine was known and will be remembered as a remarkably gracious woman. 54 years of marriage to Eugene blossomed from their first meeting in English class during their sophomore year at Foreman High School, where Gerry was voted as “Best Dressed” by her peers. She was also active in her own children’s elementary, high school and college activities by holding various offices, and supporting her childrens’ academic, musical, theatrical and athletic talents.  She was a proud “Fighting Illini Mom.”

Those who knew her knew the delight she felt when babysitting her grandchildren, taking fishing trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota, and watching her favorite soap “The Young and the Restless”. Together, Gene and Gerry closely shared a lifetime rich with memories.

In addition to her husband, Eugene, her survivors include her daughters Alison (Ted) Mazurkiewicz of Lake Zurich, Carol Golemo of Arlington Heights, Cheryl Golemo of Wheeling, her son Timothy (Gena) Golemo of Springfield, Illinois; her granddaughters Lauren and Kirsten Mazurkiewicz; her sister Joyce Elliott Wilson and her brother Jim Shupe; her aunt Margaret Schmidt; her sister-in-law Geri Beyer, brothers-in-law Raymond (Eleanor) Golemo and Alvin (Virginia) Golemo; her step-mother Mel Shupe; her nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marion Jean Shupe.
