Mary C. Barkulis
50+ year Resident of Arlington Heights
Mary C. Barkulis was born July 27, 1918, in Gary, Indiana to George and
Matrona (nee Harlembakis) Costos. She passed away peacefully on
Saturday, July 16, 2011.
In 1955, Mary and her late husband Nick moved to Arlington Heights to
open their new Grocerland Food Store. In 1971, Mary turned her passion
for travel into a career and was a travel consultant with Paradise
Tours, First Maine Travel and other various local agencies until her
retirement in 2000. Mary was an active member of the Northwest Community
Hospital Auxiliary, a hospital volunteer for over 40 years and a NWCH
Founder contributor. She was also a member of Rotary International and
the Ladies Elks Club.
She is survived by her children, Denise (Leonard) Eskuchen and Thomas
(Kathy) Barkulis; her grandchildren, Kristine Eskuchen, Kurtis (Andrea)
Eskuchen, Christopher (Jessica) Barkulis, and Sean Barkulis; her
great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Rylie, and Isabella; her sister, Ann
Salvatore; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Nick C. Barkulis; her
parents; and her special friend, Albert Grinsted.
Visitation Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 10 AM until time of Funeral
Service at 12 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington
Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights.
Interment is at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Be Healthy
