Alfred H. Nelson
Formerly of Arlington Heights

Alfred H. Nelson of Schaumburg for the last year was born May 4, 1912 in Chicago, to Alfred K. and Martha (nee Gebhartsen) Nelson. He died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

Mr. Nelson was employed by the First National Bank of Chicago for 40 years before retiring in 1974. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was Past Commander, organizer and 64 year member of the American Legion First National Bank Post #985. He was quite active in the American Legion including serving as Past 2nd District Commander, Past Finance Officer Cook County Council and Past State Treasurer for many years.

His survivors include his nieces Janet (John) Marsala and Donna (Dennis) Zuls, his nephew Robert Nelson; his step-children Bruce (Pamela) O’Neil and Roger (Lynnea) O’Neil; his step-grandchildren Christopher, Meredith and Megan; and his sisters-in-law Rosealice and Margaret Nelson.

Alfred is preceded in death by his wife Grace; his parents; his brothers Willard, Russell (Eleanor) and Vernon Nelson; and his niece Marianne Nelson.

Visitation from 3:00 until 9:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Funeral service 11:00 AM, Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. Interment private.
