Katharine Mary Kent
Of Arlington Heights

Katharine Mary Kent was born November 20, 1912 in Broughton, Salford Co., England at 108 Dudley St. to Joseph Henry Ruscoe, a grocer's assistant and Amelia Anne Crossley, a bake-shop keeper. She died June 27, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Raised near Manchester, England, served in the hospital there through the German Blitz of December, 1940, married in 1944, and became a resident of Tent Lodge near Coniston during WWII where she had her first of four children. Later in 1949, she moved in support of her husband’s medical career to Welwyn, outside of London. She emigrated with her husband, mother, and four children to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1951 and 3 years later emigrated again to River Forest, Illinois to the corner of Keystone and Chicago Ave living there for over 15 years. Afterward, she resided in Chicago, Barrington and finally in Arlington Heights, Ill.

After receiving vocational training in medical administration, Katharine was employed by the Manchester Royal Infirmary in Manchester, England, and later while living in River Forest she worked at the Massachusetts Bonding Company. She was an active volunteer at West Suburban Hospital, Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and Episcopal charities for many years.

Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, Northwestern University Professor Emeritus of Pathology, Dr. Geoffrey Kent; her children, Jonathan (Elaine Culley) Kent of Falls Church, Virginia, Simon (Virginia Linsley) Kent of Chicago, Paul (Frances Ballou Higgins) Kent of Highland Park, and Helen (Joseph Sobolak) Sobolak of Huntley, Illinois; her grandchildren are James Geoffrey Kent, Katharine Greer Kent, Meaghan Anne Kent, Robert Andrew Kent, Christine Crossely Kent, Larah Merrell Kent, Katharine May Kent and Coleen Chowning Kent.
