Mr. Butler was born March 23, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio; he died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.

Robert served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. At the time the atomic bomb was dropped in Japan, he was part of a B-29 bomb group readying for deployment to the south pacific. During those same years his wife Harriett, now deceased, was doing her part for the war effort working for the US Armed Forces Institute in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mr. Butler earned a BS degree from Northwestern University in 1951 in which he majored in accounting and finance. Also, in the early to rnid-1950's he found time to become very active in an acting capacity with the Des Plaines Theatre Guild, even though he had no academic dramatic training.

Mr. Butler was on the consulting staff of Booz Allen & Hamilton in Chicago for many years and held numerous financial positions with other major corporations throughout his career. In the early 70’s he was chosen as a candidate for the position of Fiscal Officer for the State of Illinois out of a field of 10 outstanding men in the state. After he retired from the corporate world in the late 70's & not content with retirement, he studied for and passed the Illinois State exam to become a full time real estate broker. Fifteen years later he again retired from a very successful real estate career at the age of 77.

Despite a very active lifestyle, Mr. Butler found time to give over 4000 hours of volunteer time to the Holy Family hospital in Des Plaines. Also at the time of his wife’s death in March 2001, they had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Mr. Butler played the piano and later a keyboard by ear, even though he could not read sheet music. His wife Harriet’s favorite phrase was “if you can hum it, he can play it.”

He is survived by his brother James (Carol) of Ellenton, Fla.; children Craig (Mary) of Prospect Heights, Scott (Char) of Ft. Worth, Texas and Lynne (Tom) Brennan of Prospect Heights,; grandchildren Brian (Jennifer) of Dallas, Texas, Jennifer (David) Allan of Tulsa, Okla., Jeffrey Butler of Charleston, Ill., Bethany Butler of Chicago and Andy & Dusty Quinn of Ft.
