John William Toomey
Of Arlington Heights

John William Toomey was born March 1, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio to Thomas James and Martina (nee Cushing) Toomey. He died July 7, 2006, at his home.

Mr. Toomey was a professional engineer, holding a bachelors and masters degree in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He was APICS certified at the Fellow level. John retired as the Director of Production Planning and Procurement at Signode/ITW. He then went on to start his own consulting firm, which he has managed for the past 14 years. In addition, he was an instructor in the materials management program at William Rainey Harper Community College for 13 years, the coordinator of the supply chain management program, at the college, for five years, as well as the author of two professional textbooks. John served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War and was a life-long Cleveland Indians Fan.

John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan M. (nee Eck), whom he married on October 13, 1956 in Cleveland Ohio; his children, Anne Marie (Bob) O'Donnell of Mount Prospect, Kathleen (Bernie) Hudec of Mount Prospect, and John (Lynne) Toomey of Arlington Heights; his grandchildren, Ryan O'Donnell, Colleen O'Donnell, Kate O'Donnell, Laura Hudec, Caroline Hudec, Sarah Toomey, John Toomey, and Mary Claire Toomey.

He is preceded by his parents and his brother, Thomas Robert Toomey.

Visitation from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Monday, July 10, 2006, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 8:45 AM, Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights for Mass at 9:30 AM. Interment at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society, C/O Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 432 W. Park St., Arlington Heights, IL 60005.
