Ewald Schmidt
Of Arlington Heights

Ewald Schmidt was born on October 21, 1930 to Johann and Julianna (nee Reichenbach) Schmidt. He passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013.

Ewald is survived by his spouse of 46 years, Diane Schmidt, his children, Walter (Julie) Schmidt, and Karen Kline, his granddaughter, Krista Kline, and his siblings, Henry (Ann) Schmidt, Edward Schmidt, Udo (Mary) Schmidt, and Helga (Hans-Hermann) Michaelis.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruno (Marlies) Schmidt; and his parents.

Ewald lived in Swiniary in Poland, Germany, and Canada, immigrating to the USA by boat in 1958. His boyhood was spent working from sun up to sun down on farms. In Canada, he put up oil derricks in 50F below zero weather. In Chicago, he was a master carpenter with Schmidt Brothers. He designed and built his own home in Arlington Heights in 1973. He loved reading the Bible, history, playing soccer, ping pong, and long walks around Lake Arlington. Our thanks to Lord Jesus.

Visitation from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. In State from 12:30 pm until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive St., Arlington Heights. Burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
