Cornelius Vanderwiel, Jr.

Cornelius Vanderwiel, Jr. was born on February 4, 1925 in Evanston to Cornelius, Sr. and Cornelia (nee VanEykeren). He died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in Arlington Heights.

Cornelius served in the United States Navy as a Carpenter's Mate Third Class (Seabee) USN-I (SA) in World War II, and was honorably discharged. After Service he worked as a carpenter for many years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Cornelius was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3627 in Des Plaines, where he was a former Grand Knight, and very active in the council. He loved to spend time with his family and was loved by all.

Cornelius is survived by his spouse (of 56 years) Audrey, his children, James (Annette) Vanderwiel, Margaret Vanderwiel, Thomas (Bonnie) Vanderwiel, Mark (Cecile) Vanderwiel, Robert (Nina) Vanderwiel, Paul (Karen) Vanderwiel, and Brian (Danielle) Vanderwiel; grandchildren; Laura, Allen (Kristine), Suzanne, Kyle, Brett, Drew, Timothy, Conner, Kara, Isabella, Chad, Joseph, and Luke; brothers, John (the late Patricia) Vanderwiel, and Edward (Bonnie) Vanderwiel; sister-in-law Anita Vanderwiel; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, George Vanderwiel, and Anne (Charles) Schwall.

Visitation from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers 9:15 am Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the funeral home proceeding to St. James Catholic Church, 831 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004 for a 10:00 am Funeral Mass. Interment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

In lieu of flowers, masses appreciated and memorials may be given to St. James Building Fund, Hearing Impaired Project, 831 N. Arlington Heights, Arlington Heights, IL 60004, or Salutes Inc., P.O Box 236, Prospect Heights, IL 60070.
