Mary Virginia Simon
Of Arlington Heights

Mary Virginia Simon, nee Barrett, 91, of Arlington Heights, IL, formerly of Beverly and Sauganash, was provided her angel wings on June 16, 2012 with her five children at her side.

Mary Virginia lived a long and wonderful life, filled with love for her family, strong faith, passion for travel and the never-ending journey for fun. She was an elegant and proud woman who raised five children in a household where religion, education, and respect for others shared equal billing.

Mary Virginia was born February 18, 1921 in Chicago, the daughter of her beloved father, Patrick William Barrett and dear mother Anna (Mackie) Barrett. She was loving sister to the late William Joseph (Doris) Barrett, late Rose Marie (Lawrence) Casey and Dorothy (William) Adler. She is survived by her precious sister Dorothy Adler and sister-in-law Doris Barrett.

Mary Virginia matriculated from Chicago State University and majored in education. She met her future husband, the late Joseph J. Simon, Jr., at the Catholic University Club and was married on December 30, 1950. Mary Virginia and “Joe”, her true love and constant companion, moved to Sauganash where they raised five children: Mary Sharon (“Sherry”) Kenny, Joseph John III, William Patrick, Susanne Minette (Hummel) and Patricia Ann. She found her greatest joy in the company of her family. She was a dedicated, generous and supportive mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her five loving children and their spouses, as well as her nine grandchildren: Joseph John IV, Annabeth, David, Emma, Kaitlin, Brendan, Christopher, Michael, and Ryan. Her loyalty to her family, flair for fashion, and contagious laugh will never be forgotten by those who knew her.

Mary Virginia was a resident of the Moorings of Arlington Heights after residing in Sauganash. A devout Catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of Queen of All Saints (Sauganash) and St. Cecilia Church (Arlington Heights).

A gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until time of the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 700 S. Meier Rd., Mount Prospect. Illinois 60056. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
