Leif Axel Brettner Formerly of Rolling Meadows Leif Axel Brettner, of Chicago was born October 17, 1986 in Elk Grove Village. He died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago of complications from his four year battle with leukemia. Leif graduated from St. John’s Military School in Salina, Kansas in 2005. He completed his education at St. John’s in three years after achieving the rank or Platoon Master Sergeant. While at St. John’s he was actively involved in the drum corps and the rifle corps. After graduation, Leif pursued his passion for rap music and live performance. He was known throughout the Chicagoland area as “Grim the Lab Rat.” He performed opening for local and national acts. He is survived by his father Peter Axel Brettner; his fiancée Diana Farly; his uncles and aunts James and Sheila, Glenn and Paul and Stacie; and the rest of his extended family. He will be forever loved and missed by all. Leif is preceded in death by his grandparents Paul Delbert and Marilyn “Boots” (nee Halkar) Brettner. Visitation from 3:00 until time of service at 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Leif Axel Brettner Memorial Fund, C/O Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Hts.
