Donald D. Swisher
Of Wonder Lake

Donald D. Swisher was born April 29, 1957 in Hammond, Indiana to Donald Walter Swisher and Patricia J. nee Capalby. He died Sunday, June 1, 2008.

Mr. Swisher joined the Arlington Heights Fire Department in May of 1992, became a Paramedic in 1995 and an Engineer in 2000. He was an active member of the Department’s Hazardous Materials Team, Technical Rescue Team and Dive Team. Donald was a knowledgeable and skilled Firefighter and Engineer who was always willing to share his experience and know-how with other Firefighters. His personnel file is filled with letters the Department has received over the years praising his compassion, dedication and courage. He was loved and respected within the Department and was known as a great cook and skilled craftsman. He would often tackle difficult projects around the fire station and was always quick to volunteer to help those in need.

Donald served ten years in the US Navy. Prior to joining the Arlington Heights Fire Department, he was with the Mundelein Fire Department. He was a member of Illinois Association of Fire Fighters and was a soccer coach for Mundelein AYSO and soccer coach and official for IHSA.

Donald’s survivors include his sons Anthony and Thomas Swisher of Bloomingdale; his mother Patricia J. (Swisher) Brody of Dyer, Indiana, his father Donald Walter Swisher of Signal Mountain, Tenn; his siblings Barry (Christine) Swisher, Cindy Swisher, Dawn (Lex) Larkin, Mark (Marcia) Swisher, Kevin (April) Swisher; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation from 2:00 until time of service at 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Visitation from 2:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Fagan Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave. (US 41), St. John, Indiana. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM, Monday, June 9 at St. Michael Church, 1 Wilhelm St., Schererville, Indiana, followed by Committal Service at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville.
