Helen Draper
Of Arlington Heights
Helen Draper was born on May 23, 1918 in Pierre,
South Dakota to Alexander and Nellie (nee Gernon)
Wosnuk. She passed away on May 7, 2013 at Church
Creek Health Center in Arlington Heights where
for many years she received the loving care of
the Church Creek staff, Home Instead and Vitas
caregivers.
Helen was a 1939 graduate of the University of
Illinois where she majored in vocal performance
and was soloist for the university choir. During
WWII she was a high speed code instructor in the
Army Air Corps where she met and married her
husband of 65 years. She had a 30-year career
teaching all levels from primary grades through
college. After retiring from teaching she
embarked on a second career of public speaking,
book reviewing and publishing. Her writings were
published in numerous magazines and periodicals.
She was known for her enduring friendships,
enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity.
She is survived by her children, Helen Diane
Costrini of Savannah, Georgia, Laurel Alexis and
her husband Richard Rollins of Aurora, Illinois,
Richard Donald and his wife Heather Draper of
Palm Beach, Florida; her grandchildren Angela
and her husband, Hugues Hariche of Paris,
France, David Costrini of Savannah, Georgia, and
Melanie and Victoria Rollins of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald
Draper; and her son, Mark William Draper.
Visitation Friday, May, 10, 2013 from 4:00 PM
until the time of prayer service at 6:00 pm at
Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington
Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road)
Arlington Heights. Entombment private.
