Betty A. “Bets” Freund
Of Arlington Heights

Betty A. “Bets” Freund, formerly of Woodstock, was born January 16, 1935 in Woodstock to John F. and Mamie (nee Selchow) Tornow. She died on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at her home in Arlington Heights.

Bets was a nurse at Lutheran General Hospital until her retirement in 2000. She was both a Minister of Care and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Edna Catholic Church. She was involved with the PADS organization through both St. James Catholic Church and Kingswood Methodist Church. Bets was also a volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. She touched the lives of others with her love, care and laughter.

Betty is survived by her husband, Richard A. “Dick” Freund, whom she married in December of 1955 in Woodstock; her children, Jamee Downing of Arlington Heights, Kristine (Robb) Zerfass of Palatine, and Peter (Darcelle) Freund of Palatine; her grandchildren, Rebecca Downing and Matthew, Benjamin, and Timothy Zerfass; and her siblings, John K. (Jan) Tornow of Longmont, CO, Joyce (Don) Perkins of Woodstock, and JoAnne (Jim) Rizzo of Custer, WI

Visitation from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights and Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 9:00 AM at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights until time of Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Liver Foundation, 67 E. Madison, Suite 1613, Chicago, IL 60603 or to Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle, Chicago, IL 60654.
