Helen Keller Isaacson
Of Arlington Heights

Helen Keller Isaacson was born October 16, 1914 in Chicago to Edward and Frances (nee Shafer) Keller. She died on April 17, 2010 at The Moorings.

Helen earned a PhB in English from the University of Chicago (’34). She married Robert A. Isaacson in 1947 and they shared 56 happy years together.

Of her many jobs outside the home, Helen was most proud of her ten years as a children’s librarian at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. After retirement, she served as a docent for Chicago’s Terra Museum.

Helen was a passionate reader, a fearless and imaginative cook, and an avid fan of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera. She delighted in knowledge and was a member of the local Questers chapter, Art Institute of Chicago, and Arlington Heights Historical Society.

Helen’s spirit of adventure fueled her enthusiasm for travel, both at home and abroad. She was equally comfortable camping under the stars and staying in a hotel rated with 5 of them.

Her survivors include her children Robert Isaacson, Jr. of Streetsboro, OH, Alan Isaacson of Seattle, WA, Bruce Isaacson of Arlington Heights, and Linda (Pat) Healy of Bloomington, IL; grandson Jack; sister Robinette (Gene) Simerl; nieces and nephew; and grandniece and grandnephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 - 3:00pm on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Journeys from PADS to HOPE, c/o Beth Nabors, 1140 E Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60074.
