George Francis Smith
Of Long Grove

George Francis Smith, MD was born July 17, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur Francis and Julia Catherine (nee McGuire) Smith. At peace with Christ Monday, May 28, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

George Smith graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1945 (V12 Program). He interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, served two years in the US Navy, and was a surgical resident three years at Hines VA Hospital. He was a staff surgeon and physician at Ravenswood and Resurrection Hospitals, and came to Northwest Community Hospital in 1959 as an original staff surgeon and physician where he practiced until his retirement in 1996.

Dr. Smith’s survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marjorie nee Good; his children Dennis (Jane) Smith of Chula Vista, CA, Melinda (Scott) Hoyne of Long Grove, Stephen (Lynn) Smith of Prairie View, Megan (Thomas) Brandt of Long Grove, Margo (Daniel) Lange of Wheaton, Mavis (Thomas) Langan of Wheaton, Christopher (Bobbi) Smith of Telluride, CO, Millicent Smith of San Diego, CA and Michele (Gus) Warren of Long Grove; his grandchildren Adam, Megan, Lindsey, Stephanie, Rory, Ashley, Colin, Christian, Whitney, Jordan, Brandon, Kevin, Kyle, Connor, Thomas, Patrick, Colleen, Daniel, Jack, Tyler, Cassidy, Victoria and Colette; and his brother James Patrick (Frances) Smith.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation from 3:00 until 9:00 PM, Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. Mary Catholic Church 10 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove for Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial at St. Mary Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Autism Speaks or favorite charity.
