Phillip C. Gorman
Of Palatine

Phillip c. Gorman, formerly of Arlington Heights was born February 26, 1925 in Chicago to Dr. Francis and Madeline (nee Carroll) Gorman. He died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Gorman was the Administrator for the Department of Children and Family Services for 18 years before retiring in 1990. He was a former legislative aid to State Senator Cecil Partee.

Phillip is a graduate of Roosevelt University where he was awarded a BA in Business. He served in the Army during WWII and participated in the Italian Campaign. Phillip was a 54-year member of the Christian Family Movement and served 14 years on the National Board where he attended conferences around the world. He volunteered for CEDA Northwest and CASA and was a past president and current board member of the Willow Creek Condominium Association. He was an active member of St. James Church where he participated in the St. James Productions and was a Choir member for 17 years. He was a commissioner and former Chairman of the Arlington Heights Housing Commission and a former president of the Rogers Park Community Council where he helped to save eight beaches on Lake Michigan during his tenure.

His survivors include his wife of 57 years Mary Lou nee Oberwise, whom he married July 15, 1949; his daughters Linda (Cary) Annen, Gail (Mike) Mortensen, Laurel (Rob) Saflarski and Christel Gorman; his grandchildren Kyle, Daryl, Kady, Drew, Kevin, Brittany, Lindsay, Ashley, Scott, Jack, Erin, Joshua, Madeline and Luke; his sisters Francelaine Voltz and Maureen Clarke.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents; his son Gregory and his brother Richard.

Visitation from 3:00 until 9:00 PM, Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 10:45 AM, Friday, May 4, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois.
