Eugene Edward Dougherty
Of Arlington Heights

Edward E. Dougherty was born February 9th, 1929 in Rogers Park, Chicago to Fred and Viola (nee Berger) Dougherty. He died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

He graduated from St Jerome Grammar School in 1942 and Loyola High School in 1946. From 1946 to 1956 was employed as a sheet metal worker Local 73. During which time he served two years in the U. S-Army (Korean War). He married Margaret Goodrich in 1952, and in 1954 they moved to Arlington Heights.

In 1956 Gene switched professions and became an HVAC design engineer working for Perkins & Will, Skidmore, Owings & Merill, Robert K Moss & Assoc., Schmidt, Garden, & Erickson, and several mechanical contractors.

 

Gene was last employed by Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood as Assistant Director of the Building & Design Dept. and resident Mechanical and Electrical Engineer Upon retirement 1995 Gene did consulting work for Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and Village Green in Arlington Heights.

Gene was an active member of St James Parish as a member of the Holy Name Society and serving as a Lector, Commentator, and Eucharistic Minister. He also served two terms on the Parish Advisory Council worked bingo, and produced the first 10 musicals for St James Productions He was currently serving on the Parish Master Plan Committee.

 

He was also active in the Knights of Columbus. He was Chief Squire of Columbus Council’s Circle of Squires. A 4th Degree Knight he served two terms as Grand Knight of Holy Rosary Council, and a one-year term as State Athletic Director,
Illinois State Council.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret (nee Goodrich), son Eugene, Jr. (Cindy), his daughters Joanne (John) Fox, Kathleen Hopkins, Mary Ellen Darmofal, his sons James (Debra) and Timothy (Rebecka Robertson) Dougherty; his brother Robert (Joan) of Stamford Conn.; his grandchildren, Joseph & Margaret Dougherty Brian, Christopher, & Catherine Fox, Katie Hopkins, Megan, Annie, Sarah, and Matthew Darmofal, Nicholas, Danielle, & Michael Dougherty, and Andie Dougherty

Visitation from 3:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial at All Saints Cemetery in Arlington Heights.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. James Church, 820 N. Arlington Height Rd., Arlington Hts, IL 60004.
