Phyllis Ann Shields
Of Arlington Heights

Phyllis Ann Shields passed away at her home in Arlington Heights on April 8, 2013; she was 78 years old. At her side was her devoted husband, Dr. Matthew M. Lombardi and several of her children.

Phyllis was born to John Leo and Rose Catherine Spink, August 8, 1934, in Louisville, KY. With her parents and younger brother Kenneth, she moved to Chicago in 1947.

Phyllis graduated from Holy Family High School in 1952 and while she remained in the Chicago area for her adult life, she never lost her connection or deep affection for her Louisville family.

Over and above being matriarch to a vast family, Phyllis worked at the Lutheran Home for many years. Additionally, she was an active member of St. James Parish serving with many wonderful friends in such groups as the Foundation of Children in Need, Eucharistic Ministry, Women’s Guild, Care Ministry, CRHP, and the Jubilation. While raising her children, Phyllis was involved in St. Edna’s Parish. Despite her religious convictions and prayers, she was also destined to be a passionate, albeit unfulfilled, Cubs fan.

Phyllis survived her first and second spouses, John Michael Yosenick and Bernard James Shields. More recently, she fell in love with Matt Lombardi and the two were married by Pastor Bill Zavaski on December 28, 2006. Matt and Phyl spent much of the past 6 plus years visiting family, traveling, enjoying each other and, as Phyl so enjoyed, dancing.

Together through life, Phyllis is also survived by 9 children, Sharon Ann, Daniel Joseph, Debra Lee, Colleen Mary, Margaret Lynn Mulvihill, Joseph Michael Shields (Joanne), Bridget Marie, Michael Bernard (Sarah Seidler), and Dr. Alan Laramie (Nicole); 13 grandchildren, Brian Matthew and Mallory Jean Mulvihill, Annie Rose Dodwin, Breana Lee and Weston Lee Jossey, James Timothy Fitton, Jr., and Jason Joseph and Jessica Lynn, Fionn Bernard and Annalee Ivy, and Isabella Echo, Johanna Blue, and Elliot Piper-Lee Shields; and 3 great-grandchildren.
