Thomas G. Oakson

Thomas G. Oakson was born on January 3, 1936 in Spring Valley, IL to Earl and Lillian (nee Gurnett) Oakson. He died Friday, April 20, 2007 in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Oakson was a teacher and principal in Northbrook District 30 from 1959 until 1974. From 1974 until his retirement in 1992, Thomas was the superintendent of Hawthorn School District 73 in Vernon Hills.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Yolanda (nee Gebbia) Oakson, whom he married on June 18, 1960 in Skokie; his children, Anthony (Brenda) Oakson and Amy (Joseph) Oakson-Hornat; grandchildren, Julia and Thomas Oakson; his siblings, Joseph (Patricia) Oakson and Barbara Strunk; his sister-in-law, Connie Johnson; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Ripoli.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Lt. William Strunk; and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Ripoli.

Visitation 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. Thomas Becket, 1321 Burning Bush Lane, Mt. Prospect for Mass at 10:00 AM. Entombment All Saints Mausoleum.
