Ruth Elaine Tuomi
Of Arlington Heights

Ruth Elaine Tuomi, nee Campbell was born May 23, 1923 in Ada, Ohio. She died, Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Heights.

She received a Bachelor of Science with distinction in Education from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University.

Her adult work experience included working at Young and Rubican Advertising Agency in New York; teaching English in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania; working in the College of Education Office at Ohio State University while her husband pursued his Ph.D; and teaching at Forest View High School in Arlington Heights. In retirement she continued to grade English papers for High School Dist. #214.

Ruth has had several poems published and belonged to both Writers Groups and Book Discussions.

She and her husband were among the founders of the Church of the Incarnation, United Methodist, and were active members.

Her husband, Donald, died in 2002. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Donna (Dr. Paul) Beck and Rev. Mary (Rev. Stephen) Hammond; her grandchildren Allison, Byron, Stephanie, Sarah, Rachel and Grace; her brother Edwin (Pat) Campbell and her sister-in-law Agnes Campbell.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Louise Campbell and her brother Ivor Campbell.

Visitation from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service, 1:00 PM, Monday, April 9, 2007 at the St. John’s Chapel at the Lutheran Home & Services, 800 W. Oakton, Arlington Heights. Burial Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
