Dr. Camen R. "Jim" Paynter
Of Arlington Heights
Dr. Camen R. "Jim" Paynter was born on December 23, 1916 in Plankinton,
South Dakota to James and Rose (nee Katula) Paynter. He died Saturday,
March 3, 2012 in Arlington Heights.
Dr. Paynter served as Captain in the U.S. Army and Medical Officer in
the Section of Clinical Investigation in the Army Medical Nutrition Lab
during World War II. His illustrious medical career began at the
University of Illinois School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in
internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He became clinical instructor in
gastroenterology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of
Medicine. He was board certified in internal medicine and the
subspecialty of gastroenterology. He later received a MBA degree from
the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He was Medical
Director of Continental Insurance Company and a clinical professor at
Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola. He worked at the University of
Illinois Medical Center until his retirement in 1992. His many
professional associations included American Gastroenterological
Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and
American Association for Study of Liver Disease, and he was a Fellow of
the International Society of Hematology. His dedication to learning
never ended, including a great love of nature, gardening, photography,
business, travel and reading.
Camen is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Mary Therese “Terry” (nee
Power) Paynter who he married June 11, 1949 in Chicago; his children,
Mary (Robert) Van Milligan of Pownal, Maine, Patricia (Samuel) Snyder of
Temple, Texas, John (Bette) Paynter of Carlsbad, California, James
Paynter of Amarillo, Texas, Edmond (Wendy) Paynter of Montgomery, Texas,
Paul Paynter of Addison, Illinois, and Thomas Paynter of Champaign,
Illinois; his three grandchildren, Samantha (Victor) Rodriguez of
McAllen, Texas, Mark (Nicole) Paynter of San Marcos, CA, and Dylan
Snyder of Temple, Texas; and his two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Grace
Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Garnet Nelson, and by his
parents.
Visitation from 9:00 AM until time of prayers at 10:30 AM, Friday, March
9, 2012 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road,
( 4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington Heights to Our Lady of the
Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights for Mass at
11:00 AM. Interment is at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in
Palatine.
Memorials may be given to the Miraculous Medal Shrine, 1811 W. Saint
Joseph St., Perryville, Missouri 63775.
