William C. Ehlert
Formerly of Chicago
Bill was born March 31, 1924, to Max and Liz Beth (nee Bohn) Ehlert in
Chicago. He died March 21, 2011 at U.S. Department of VA Affairs Medical
Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. Ehlert served in the United States Army during World War II, and was
a decorated World War II Veteran. He was the recipient of two Purple
Hearts for being wounded during combat. Bill spoke fluent German and
served as an interpreter during World War II for the United States Army.
He resided in Chicago for 55 years and worked 25 years as Chief Engineer
for Canada Dry in Maywood, IL and later relocated to Memphis, TN and
joined RC of Memphis as Chief Engineer. In his retirement years he
enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, coin collecting,
internet trading, card games and the companionship of his loyal four
legged friends.
Bill is survived by his children Bob Ehlert, Kathryn (Joseph) Patti; his
grandchildren Teresa Patti, Jamie (Robert) Voss; great grandchildren
Alyssa and Noah, and Bill’s loyal companion Liz.
Mr. Ehlert is preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life
and wife for 42 years, Eleanor (nee Cook).
Visitation Friday, March 25, 2011 from 12:00 PM until time of Funeral
Service at 2:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N.
Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington
Heights. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Disabled
American Veterans, 2122 West Taylor Street, #104, Chicago, IL 60612.
