Margaret M. Westergaard

Of Arlington Heights

Margaret Westergaard (nee Johnson) was born Feb. 6, 1914 in Chicago to John and Anna Johnson, she died March 12 at her home, The Moorings, in

Arlington Heights. She was 94.

Mrs. Westergaard graduated from Schurz High School.  She married Carl  Westergaard on April 6, 1940 and the couple remained devoted to each other for more than 55 years until his death in 1995.

The couple had homes in Chicago, Mount Prospect, Inverness and Barrington during their marriage.  Mrs. Westergaard accompanied her husband, who was a manufacturing executive and private pilot, on many airplane trips throughout the Midwest, Florida, Cuba, The Bahamas, Canada and the American West. They were longtime members of Inverness Golf Club.

  Mrs. Westergaard, a homemaker, enjoyed many activities throughout her life, including ice skating, bowling, golf, skiing and boating.

  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her eldest son, Alan C. Westergaard of Arlington Heights; her parents; two brothers, Albert and Charles Johnson; two sisters, Myrtle Beckman and Lucille Lyon.

 She is survived by her sons, Richard C. Westergaard, of Jensen Beach, FL and his children, Kathryn, Spencer and Christopher Westergaard, and their mother, Athene Westergaard; Neil Westergaard and his wife, Cynthia, of Denver, CO and their children, Benton and Rachel Westergaard; daughter-in-law and grandson, Sandra and Mark Westergaard of Arlington Heights; nephews Ken Johnson, Herbert Johnson, and Bill Beckman; and nieces Karen Bilek; Joyce Rawlings, Kathy Ninos, and Gayle J. Lyon.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights.
